Special Services Overview
-
Special Services is an extremely diverse department, created to meet the varied needs of our students, their families, and the community. While most of our work centers around students with identified special needs, we also serve students who are homeless or displaced, and students who are truant. We hope that, through this web site, you will gain a greater understanding of our role in the Smyrna School District, and how we are able to assist students and families who are in need of services.
Special Service Mission and Vision
-
Vision
The Smyrna Special Services Team will provide students access to a dynamic education within the Smyrna School District that inspires and promotes each student’s academic promise.
Mission
The Smyrna Special Services Team engages in collaboration and problem solving with staff, students, and families to develop meaningful, comprehensive plans to support students’ success.
Notice:
Each year, the Smyrna School District applies for federal funding under IDEA Part B - Funds for Children with Disabilities to provide special education services to those students identified with a disability. The District creates a plan to address the needs of students with disabilities who have been parentally-placed in private schools, including homeschools.
On Wednesday, April 5th at 1:00, the Smyrna School District will hold a meeting to discuss and collaborate on the services to be provided to parentally-placed private school and homeschool children with disabilities. Please contact the Special Services Office at 302-653-3135 if you would like to attend or want more information.
